Dr. Thomas E. Backer is a psychologist and management consultant who specializes in nonprofit capacity building and philanthropic strategy for foundations and individual donors.  He also works with artists and arts organizations on the psychological aspects of creativity. 

 

He is the author of more than 500 books, articles, and research reports, and is Senior Research Fellow, California State University Northridge, where he also directs the Valley Nonprofit Resources program, working to strengthen nonprofit organizations in the San Fernando Valley. 

 

He is a founding member and on the boards of both National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers and Advisors in Philanthropy Los Angeles.
